Tanjung Datu National Park

One of Amansar’s favourite destinations, Tanjung Datu is located at the most Western tip of Sarawak on the border with Kalimantan. There is no road access, but from the fishing village of Telok Melano it is possible to hike in or to hire a boat. Its remoteness is an attractive feature if you like exploring an environment that is relatively untouched. Tanjung Datu has a rich assortment of wildlife, some unusual plant species, a secluded coastline and coral reefs close to shore making snorkelling enjoyable, while farther out dolphins and sometimes whales have been seen. In addition to this, there are 4 short walking trails that combine rainforest and beach scenery with amazing views of both the Indonesian and Malaysian coastlines.

Endangered Green Turtles and Olive Ridley Turtles regularly lay eggs on the beaches at Tanjung Datu, and so the Park Rangers have established a turtle hatchery to protect and monitor the eggs.
