Gunung Gading National Park & Rafflesia flower

Gunung Gading National Park covers 4,106 hectares and four mountains. It is famous as a conservation zone for the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia. This rare flower only blooms for between 3 to 5 days, and although your visit to Sarawak may not coincide with a spectacular blooming, the Park guides will take you off the main trails into the rainforest to view the varying stages of this parasitic plant development. It has no roots, leaves, or stem, and cannot self-pollinate, so its life cycle is both highly unusual and intriguing.

There are 3 walking trails in Gading, but as it is a conservation zone you must be accompanied by a Park guide, which Amansar can arrange for you. Two of the trails are quite challenging, being 7 hours return and 11 hours return to the Park HQ. The easiest and shortest trail is the Waterfall Trail which passes 7 waterfalls, although not all of them are accessible. The jungle scenery is stunning and at the final waterfall the natural pool is picturesque, surrounded by forest.

Gading also has a scenic picnic park behind the HQ with a clear water pool for swimming that is filled by a mountain stream.
