On return to Kuching your guide will take you on a short orientation tour of the city highlights. You will return to your hotel by 1pm and enjoy a free afternoon.

Day 3 – Tanjung Datu National Park (B, L, D)

Check out of your hotel after breakfast and depart for a 3D/2N tour to the awesome Tanjung Datu National Park, a remote park at the western most tip of Sarawak where the mountains meet the sea. There are basic accommodation facilities at the NP Headquarters, and meals will be prepared for you by your guide.

On the drive to Tanjung Datu you will stop briefly at the coastal fishing villages of Sematan and Telok Melano. From Telok Melano you will continue on to Tanjung Datu by boat, unless you would prefer to hike into the Park while your luggage is sent by boat.

Day 4 – Tanjung Datu National Park (B, L, D)

Spend the day swimming and trekking with your guide. The animal life is wonderfully diverse and combined with the untouched nature of the rainforest, Tanjung Datu really is an environmental paradise making trekking a very special experience.

Apart from the hundreds of bird species, there are 5 species of primates, 3 species of deer, as well as Bearded Pigs, Binturong (Bearcats) and Civet Cats in this park. During the turtle season, it is possible to see the turtles laying their eggs on the beach at night.

The park has a protected nesting hatchery close to the beach. It is also sometimes possible to see dolphins and even whales in this area. There is coral close to the shore making snorkelling enjoyable.

Day 5 – Sematan – Gunung Gading National Park (B, L)

After breakfast, you will leave Tanjung Datu and return to Sematan, where you will visit the Niranur Agro Farm established by a local family to produce organic honey from the famous kelutut stingless bees.

After lunch at Sematan, you will proceed to the Gunung Gading National Park, famous as a conservation zone for the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia. This rare flower only blooms for between 3 to 5 days, and although your visit to Sarawak may not coincide with a spectacular blooming, the Park guides will take you off the main trails into the rainforest to view the varying stages of the highly unusual and intriguing life cycle of this parasitic plant, which has no roots, leaves, or stem, and cannot self-pollinate!

You will return to Kuching by late afternoon and check in to your hotel.

Day 6 – Sarawak Cultural Village – Santubong River Cruise / Kuching Wetlands National Park (B)

After breakfast at your hotel, you will visit the Sarawak Cultural Village at Damai, another environmental paradise that is renowned as a living museum because it houses the different indigenous cultures unique to Borneo. The morning cultural show is at 11.30am after which you can enjoy visiting the tribal houses at your leisure and learn about the lifestyles of Sarawak’s inhabitants from the families who live in them.

The afternoon Santubong River Cruise to the Kuching Wetlands National Park departs at 5pm and is a wonderful opportunity to relax and watch dolphin, proboscis monkeys and at sunset, fireflies, just to name some of the wildlife that can be seen among the mangroves that line the river.
