One of Amansar’s favourite destinations, Tanjung Datu is located at the farthest South Western tip of Sarawak on the border with Kalimantan. There is no road access, but it is possible to hire a boat from the village of Sematan to get to Tanjung Datu, a 1-1.5 hour trip depending on the conditions. Its remoteness is an attractive feature if you like exploring an environment that is relatively untouched. Tanjung Datu has a rich assortment of wildlife, some unusual plant species, secluded coastline and coral reefs close to shore, while farther out dolphins and sometimes whales are seen. In addition to this, there are 4 short walking trails that combine rainforest and beach scenery with amazing views of both the Indonesian and Malaysian coastlines.
Endangered Green Turtles and Olive Ridley Turtles regularly lay eggs on the beaches at Tanjung Datu, and so the Park Rangers have established a turtle hatchery to protect and monitor the eggs.

Optional: on the return boat trip from Tanjung Datu, stop at the traditional Malay fishing village of Telok Melano. It is also possible to stay overnight in Melano in homestay accommodation.

Note: this tour is not possible during the monsoon season from October to February, due to rough sea conditions.
