This tour covers the most important and interesting places in the city: the colonial Kuching precinct; the waterfront where the heritage Chinese godown shop houses and temples are a wonderful reminder of the days of the White Rajah; the Malay kampung settlement west of the city centre where the Old State Mosque is a striking landmark standing on a hill beside the original Brooke dockyard; and bustling Little India, established nearby as the Indian coolies arrived in the early C19th to work on the docks.

You will learn about the history of the Brooke White Rajah era and will view C19th architecture in their former Astana (palace), as well as Fort Margherita (built as a defense against pirates), the Square Tower (once a gaol and later a dance hall), the Old Court House complex, and the Brooke Memorial.
The tour includes visits to the Sarawak museum, built by the second Rajah in 1891, and to either Sarawak’s oldest Chinese temple Tua Pek Kong (pre-1839) believed to have been built by Chinese migrants from Kalimantan OR to the Old State Mosque rebuilt in 1968 from the original wooden mosque built in 1847.
